In major incidents power companies get to “pass through” costs of reconstruction onto electricity consumers.
The recent bushfires are a prime example of an incident where this could apply.
We hope that when distributors are rebuilding these areas, they use new infrastructure designs that are less prone to failure during bushfires, such as ETSA did after the Ash Wednesday fires.
This would make best use of the extra costs that electricity consumers will have to pay.
