Merry Xmas workers of Australia

The Albanese Government has secured the support of the Greens, Lydia Thorpe, David Pocock and the Jacqui Lambie Network to pass large parts of the Closing Loopholes laws!

This will be a major win for working people and a huge Christmas present for so many. The new rights include:

1. New rights for labour hire workers (same job, same pay)
2. Criminalising and increasing fines for wage theft
3. Strong new rights for workplace delegates
4. Stronger workplace safety laws, including industrial manslaughter and better rights for injured workers
5. Protections for domestic violence survivors
6. Redundancy rights for those working in small businesses

The Government has also committed to finishing the job and passing the rest of the Bill early next year. This includes:

1. Better rights for casuals
2. Rights for gig workers on digital platforms
3. Better rights for truckies and those in road transport to stay safe

To all members, please see the latest National OH&S Safety Alert regarding an underground gas fire incident.

The Jointer received minor burns to their face and received hospital treatment and released the same day and is now back at work. The jointer mentioned how effective the Arc Rated clothing was that they were wearing in preventing further injury which illustrates the importance of using the correct PPE for the job. ... This week our Power Industry Official "Splitty" made his way across the South Eastern part of South Australia as well as a visit to Keswick and members at the Network Operating Centre.

The topic again was the EA offer from Utilities Management Pty Ltd.

With over 1000km travelled and lots of conversations had it was a fantastic opportunity to hear from the workers and their thoughts on the EA Proposal.

This Christmas, workers aren’t asking for a miracle from Santa. They’re just asking for politicians to change our work laws so that loopholes are closed and wages keep up with the cost-of-living.

This Closing Loopholes Bill will be voted on by politicians in the new year. This vote is about choosing between working people and big businesses, like Qantas and mining companies, who want to shut down these new laws to protect their profits.

It’s the crossbench senators that can make a real difference by supporting this Bill. These senators are:

Jacqui Lambie – Senator for Tasmania
Tammy Tyrrell – Senator for Tasmania
David Pocock – Senator for the Australian Capital Territory
Ralph Babet – Senator for Victoria
