Additional Part-Public Holidays New Year’s Eve and Christmas Eve
The CEPU welcomes the announcement by the Government, The Greens, Kelly Vincent and John Darley that they will support the historic reform to pass through Parliament next week.
It shows what can be achieved when Government, Businesses and Unions work together for the betterment of the State.
Most importantly, this is a historic step forward in the recognition of Power Industry Workers serving our community late on Christmas Eve and New Year’s Eve.
The massive groundswell of support from ordinary South Australians provided a significant boost to the New Public Holidays campaign organised by Unions seeking a fair go for their members.
A recent Newspoll survey showed 80.6% of South Australians supported higher rates of pay for people who work late on Christmas Eve and New Year’s Eve.
We will continue to work hard to make sure this reform gets across the line right up until the moment it gets voted on in the Legislative Council.
This will mean that penalty rates of 2.5 times will be paid to Power Workers from 7pm to midnight on Christmas Eve and New Year’s Eve.
